The Kooks - Live Review - SLC, UT 11/30/2011

The Kooks graced Salt Lake City with their presence on Wednesday, November 30th, 2011. They played a well balanced 21 song set that offered a good combination of tracks from all three albums. They played 6 or 7 songs from each of their 3 albums; Inside In/Inside Out, Konk, and Junk of The Heart and also added a couple of B-sides to round things out. Overall I was well pleased for the Setlist selection and couldn't be more thrilled to here frontman Luke Pritchard's stripped down acoustic offering of 'Seaside'. The song has always been a favorite of mine and it was great to get an upclose look at Pritchard with his wool hunter hat, sunglasses, and guitar giving SLC a nice little treat.

I have always favored Inside In/Inside Out album over any of their other albums but seeing them live the songs could be played from any album or in any order without any complaint from me. The Kooks newest offering Junk of The Heart didn't initially overwhelm me and before the show I would easily say their first two offerings were much better. Now hearing the new album played live my opinion is swayed a little, I thought the new songs sounded great live. 'How'd You Like That', 'Rosie' and the poppy 'Junk of the Heart (Happy)' all were brought to life as they were played live. A couple of tunes I would have liked to hear that didn't get played were 'Petulia' and oldie 'Time Awaits' but other then that it is pretty hard to complain about this setlist.
