FPT's Top Albums of 2012 (...So Far)

We're about halfway through the year 2012 and we've been provided with some unbelievably great albums thus far. We here at FPT have compiled our own individual lists and came up with a strange amalgam of albums that we each consider to be called "The Best of 2012"

Below you will find a format which sets up a separate list for "Best Album of 2012" but dependent on how many of our individual writers included it in their list. Therefore, the more writers who included it on their list, the higher on this aggregate list it is.

Both Jack White's Blunderbuss and Beach House's Bloom caught the ears of 5/6 contributing writers. This really is no surprise, as both albums received an unheralded amount of praise from critics and fans, alike.

Jack White - Blunderbuss

With his first solo album, Blunderbuss found Jack White sticking to his guns: gritty and potent rock music. "Sixteen Saltines" and "I'm Shakin'" are two of my favorite tracks from any artist this year.

Beach House - Bloom

Beach House's third album features a very familiar sound the band set forth in 2010's Teen Dream, probably it's only shortcoming.

Sharon Van Etten - Tramp
(Featured on 4 writers' lists)

The uber-talented Sharon Van Etten's Tramp. Released on Jagujaguwar in February, and driven by the amazing first single, "Serpents," the album featured help from members of Wye Oak and The Walkmen.

Grimes - Visions

Japandroids - Celebration Rock
The Walkmen - Heaven
Sigur Ros - Valtari

Reptar - Body Faucet
Metric - Synthetica
The Shins - Port of Morrow

A few superb albums were included in three members of FPT's individual lists. All of these albums are spectacular, and the notion that these albums don't appear higher on the list speaks (hopefully) to the wide range of tastes we have here at Fake Plastic Tunes.

Alabama Shakes - Boys & Girls

As I said, all of these albums are great, and I can guarantee a few will be featured in the top three when individual contributors lists are released at year's end.

Next, we have some honorable mentions. These albums were each included in two of our contributor's lists. Again, this list can only helps prove that 2012 has been a fantastic year for music thus far. Clicking on each artist/album title will bring you to a video or song from each album.

Interesting Outliers:
As I perused my colleagues' lists, as well as my own, I decided a couple of these albums needed a little love, whether because they slipped under my own radar, or may have slipped under yours. Also, I wanted to showcase some different genres in this piece as well.
